The passing of Steve Ellis, Owner of the “Fisherman’s Spot”

It’s with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to owner Steve Ellis. He passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2026.
He was the kind of guy you never forget. Perfectly weird, far from ordinary, caring and kind – but quick with a tease or comeback. He was forced to be an adult in the same way most of us are, but he truly was a kid at heart. Quitting pharmacy school on day one, Steve did something most of us never do: he chose passion over job security.
For over 50 years, he dedicated his life to serving the Southern California angling community. He cultivated a place where we could discover fly fishing, meet friends, ask questions, and feel okay about spending all of our hard-earned money.
He was the heart and soul of Fishermen’s Spot and we’ll miss him dearly.
Rest in peace, Steve.
